Choosing the right mattress can be a difficult task, especially if you’re not up to date on everything you need to know about mattresses. There are a surprising number of factors to take into consideration during the process of choosing a mattress. There’s thickness, size, type, firmness, how it feels amongst other considerations.

You should calculate the thickness of mattress that you need in order to gauge what degree of support you want and what range of support you can achieve from prospective mattresses once you’ve determined the firmness you’re looking for. The thickness of a mattress intertwines directly with the firmness of a mattress. A mattress with a higher level of firmness generally provides excellent support for those who sleep on their back or front, and in rare cases some people who sleep on their side enjoy a mattress with a high level of firmness. A mattress with low firmness is best suited to people who sleep on their side, as the mattress can contour to their shape during sleep, providing a comfortable medium. Mattresses with a lower firmness can also assist people who have joint issues, as a low firmness mattress allow a person to sink more easily into it, relieving pressure on joints.

The size factor is pretty self explanatory, you should carefully check the measurements of both your bed and your mattress to verify whether the mattress size you are picking will be suitable for your bed.

As for the type of mattresses available, there are a few different options to consider. There are four main types of mattress; Pocket spring mattresses, open coil mattresses, memory foam mattresses and latex foam mattresses. We believe the best support with low firmness comes with pocket spring mattresses and memory foam mattresses. Memory foam offers a pocket of memory foam for added comfort and support, pocket spring mattresses are also very comfortable and are a popular choice. Latex foam and open coil mattresses are also good choices, but tend to be less firmer than pocket spring or memory foam.

Consider each one of the above factors when choosing your next mattress and remember that if you’re ever unsure, don’t hesitate to ask our team for advice on choosing the right mattress for you.
