Upon visiting London recently, you will find it hard not to see a new curved glass tower sitting on the Thames Southbank, near the London Eye.  One Blackfriars has now opened and is arguably the most luxurious residential skyscraper in London.  With flats ranging upwards of £12 million, it would not be fitting if it didn’t have its own spa, or what the property has named a “luxury thermal suite”.  With its own ice fountain and snow cabin, residents can also find three elegant four poster beds, handmade by Get Laid Beds.

With its nickname ‘The Vase’, which is playing cool near other landmark towers such as ‘The Cheese Grater’ and ‘The Gherkin’, its shape is as unique to join in with the recognisable new naming convention. While it may sound like something you’d find in a home, One Blackfriars is actually a 50 storey tower with 274 apartments designed by renowned British Architect, Ian Simpson.

This piece of architecture is more than just a building and is actually an incredible piece of design for many different reasons.

The Development

The tower was designed by Ian Simpson, a British architect. It was his vision to create and development of the design took 15 years. Construction started in 2013 with each individual window being lifted and bent into place. Over 5,800 tonnes of steel went into the construction and there’s more than 2,500 doors in the building!

The Multiple Uses

The building provides 274 homes, which have beautiful views of the London through their floor to ceiling windows. It’s this design feature that helps residents feel a connection with the outside world. Most of these windows were bent into shape as they were installed. It’s the reflection from these that plays on the movement outside, turning the building into more than just a boring inanimate object to the eye. One Blackfriars is the perfect way to fully embrace London life, as well as experience the sweeping views of the capital. On a clear day, it will be possible to see for up to 23 miles.

Also onsite the luxurious One Blackfriars complex is two more buildings. One has restaurants, shops and other facilities for residents including a swimming pool, cinema, spa and gym. The other building is a hotel with 161 rooms. At ground level is an open public space, which allows everyone to take in their surroundings and enjoy this incredible place.

Pool and Spa

London life can be incredibly demanding. Boasting a 20m swimming pool there’s no better way to unwind and restore the body than going for a relaxing swim or of course relax in the Low Four Poster Beds. If swimming isn’t for you, also available to residents is a thermal suite. Whether it’s taking to the warmth of the sauna or even experiencing their luxury showers, it’s the lush way to end a work filled day.

The Gym

For some, the gym is their favourite way to end their day. At One Blackfriars is a fully equipped fitness suite. This overlooks onto Japanese Rock (or ‘Zen’) garden. This has been carefully designed to stimulate meditation, making it the ideal place for residents to relax and do yoga.

Level 32

With stunning views of London, including the Houses of Parliament, a lounge is available to all residents. The space is also available for private hire, perfect for parties or even business events.

Private Cinema

Available for residents is the private screening room, a place to gather for movie nights. With a comfortable seatings arrangement and plenty of refreshments in the refreshment area, it’s a desirable way to chill out at the weekend.
