Thank You – We’ve Planted 10,000 Trees in Africa

Thanks to the amazing generosity of our customers, you’ve helped us reach this incredible milestone! A commendable 1 in 5 GLB orders are now choosing to make a contribution to help reforest the once lush landscape of Kenya.  Why Kenya? Because it is one of the least forested countries in Africa, with only 7% tree cover. Agricultural expansion, timber harvesting and charcoal burning led to massive deforestation in the 70’s and 80’s. The economic impacts are as important as the environmental ones and the planting of these 10,000 trees will help solve both.

Our partnership with the International Tree Foundation (ITF) charity commenced less than 2 years ago, but in the last 9 months, we’ve been able to plant the majority of the 10,000 trees. The momentum is increasing and we’re excited to launch today the ability to donate directly to the ITF charity through our own website.  The hope is that we can help further increase the donations through awareness to our passive website visitors who don’t purchase with us, where previously the donations were only being driven via the checkout process.

“It’s absolutely fantastic news that Get Laid Beds have reached the 10,000 trees milestone. We want to say a huge thanks to a forward thinking, environmentally aware company for choosing to partner with us.

It’s great to see Get Laid Beds involving their customers in planting trees. Each tree is carefully raised by community groups in Kenya, then planted in the forest or on farmland, increasing tree cover in one of the least forested countries in Africa. The project is also supporting resource poor farmers to improve their farming techniques through integrating trees into their farming system – trees which will provide fruits to improve family nutrition and to sell on local markets. 10,000 trees is a significant contribution to the project, we look forwards to the next 10,000!”

– Andy Egan, CEO, International Tree Foundation.

The ITF have been actively supporting forestry worldwide since 1924 and their approach to help communities in parallel has some far reaching benefits to make these efforts go that bit further.  The direct impact that Get Laid Beds is focusing on is in the Lower Imenti Forest, Mount Kenya National Park (0°07’35.5″N 37°41’17.6″E) and the surrounding areas.  It’s estimated the projects are improving the livelihoods of 50,000 rural households living close to the forests through planting trees on their farms.

Each and every tree makes a real impact.  With just 1 tree costing £0.40 pence to plant on average, no donation is too small.
