Top 10 Best Summer Films

By Oliver 1 August 2014

The sun may not be shining as brightly as before but to get you in the mood for (hopefully) more sunshine, here are our Top 10 Summer films – selected by our team here at Get Laid Beds!

10. Grease

An old classic of course. Although set in term time, it does feature that ever so famous song ‘Summer Lovin’ – so we thought it would most definitely be worth a mention. Sometimes, you can’t beat an old classic musical!

9. Jaws

Yet another classic is on the list already with Amity Island preparing for its busy 4th of July weekend. Nothing is going to get in the way of relaxing on the beach is it?

8. Stand By Me

Set in the summer when the children are off school, this film has everything, including a dead body to be seen AND Wil Wheaton!

7. Dog Day Afternoon

Inept bank robber Sonny (played by Al Pacino) and his partner choose a muggy day in Brooklyn to stage their heist. In the film, Sonny gets the crowd going whilst making fun of the police’s notorious handling of the real life Attica prison riot. An Al Pacino film has to make it onto every single list somewhere!

6. (500) Days Of Summer

This films stars both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel during their relationship over time and it’s great yet dysfunctional properties. Most definitely not your typical romance film or rom-com – this is something else.

5. The Seven Year Itch

A classic Marilyn Munroe film! A businessmen packs off his wife and kids to the coast, only to become attracted to his neighbour. This film features the classic scene of Marilyn standing over a subway vent. (We’ll neglect to point out that subway vents usually expel hot air!)

4. Point Break

One of our personal favourites here at Get Laid Beds. It features surfing, romance, crime, violence – you name it, it has it. FBI agent Johnny Utah chases bank robbers known as the Ex-Presidents but he gets seduced by their surfing leader played by Patrick Swayze. It features the classic moment where Johnny cannot shoot him and he fires his gun into the air.

3.  Friday the 13th (1980)

Everyone appreciates a good Friday the 13th film. Camp Crystal Lake is re-opened 20 years after a slasher murdered a counsellor – you can see where this is going. This film features Kevin Bacon too in a particularly grotesque scene.

2. Die Hard With A Vengeance

John McClane came back in the third installment within the Die Hard series – the first film where he realises that trouble doesn’t just wait until Christmas to find him. Samuel L Jackson co-stars alongside Bruce Willis with Jeremy Irons playing the bad guy.

1. I Know What You Did Last Summer

It has summer in the title and is a clever and heading towards a classic summer film. When you start getting death threats from a hook-handed fisherman who witnessed last year’s unfortunate accident, it’s time to look forward to Autumn. Sarah Michelle Gellar stars – but not as her usual fighting Buffy self!

If you have any suggestions about other films that you’ve enjoyed or would like to be included then we would love to hear about them! Summer films are guaranteed to keep you happy all year round.
