Ways To Keep Warm This Autumn

By Jack 9 October 2015

This is a forest in Autumn with fallen leaves covering the ground.

On a chilly Autumn night, there is no worse feeling than being freezing cold. Keeping warm is a priority that most people neglect, however in doing so find themselves shivering underneath the duvet cover. At Get Laid Beds we know the importance of keeping warm and cosy this autumn, so here are some ways you can do so.

  1. Ensure that you wear night clothes when going to bed, this can include pyjamas or maybe a large thick t-shirt to keep you warm. Natural fibres such a wool, cotton or silk will generally keep you a lot warmer than other basic synthetic materials.

  2. Before you decide to retire to bed for the night, have a hot bubble bath. This will gently begin to warm up your body, and slowly start to relax you making you feel a lot more sleepy.

  3. You will be surprised, but doing some exercise before bed can actually help to keep you warm. Doing some exercises that will begin to get your circulation going and the blood pumping round your body will help keep the body warm. However ensure you don’t do anything to vigorous that close to bedtime as you may feel to invigorated to sleep.

  4. Choosing a duvet with a high tog rating is crucial, the higher the tog rating the warmer you are going to be whilst sleeping. Alternatively, several layers of bedding rather than one single layer may also help, as layers trap the warm air and can easily be removed.

  5. Use a hot water bottle – Although it may be old fashioned is an ideal way to keep warm once in bed. To avoid scolding ensure that it has some form of cover over it, and to also ensure it won’t feel cold through the night. Electric blankets may also be an option, underblankets warming the bed up before you retire for the night, while overblankets maintain the constant warm temperature.
