We all spend a long time in our lives sleeping. In fact, it’s thought that around ⅓ of our lifetime is done doing this task. We all sleep in different ways during the night time. But are there any ways we can sleep which are more comfy than others?

On your back – Believe or not, this isn’t the most popular position. But it is still the best way to sleep. It’s a healthy position because your spine, neck and head rest in neutral position. This means there is less pressure on these areas which leads to an overall more comfortable night’s sleep. The possible disadvantage which comes with this sleeping position is that it can make snoring more severe.

Fetal Position –  This sleeping position is easily the most popular with 41% people choosing to sleep in it.  This pose is great for those who snore, and also women who are pregnant! This is because it improves your body’s circulation and the fetus. But be careful with this sleeping pose as being curled up too tightly can restrict breathing. It can also sometimes leave your feeling sore when you wake up.

On Your Side – This position, with straight legs and torso helps to decrease acid reflux, and can also stop you from experiencing back and neck pain. Furthermore, you’re also less likely to snore because your airways are kept open, making it an excellent choice for those who suffer from sleep apnea. It’s thought that around 15% of adults choose to sleep in this position.

But what about the worst sleeping position?

You should avoid a stomach sleeping position. It can lead to bad back pain and neck pain. Also, despite being chosen by around 7% of adults, it can put pressure on muscles and joints which can lead to numbness.
