We want to wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day here from Get Laid Beds and we hope that you have a wonderful day.

A short piece about Valentines Day…

Saint Valentines Day is on February 14th every year and is celebrated by many countries around the globe though it isn’t counted as a holiday. Despite contrary belief, Valentines Day didn’t have the same romantic involvement it has today until the Middle Ages which then flourished further in the 18th Century. By the 18th Century it had evolved into an occasion where lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting gifts such as flowers, confectionary and sending greetings cards which are now known as Valentines. The most popular symbols that are used today include hearts, doves and the figure of Cupid. Nowadays, instead of hand written Valentines they are mass produced for the high street.

There are many different stories, legends and tales revolving around the celebration of Valentines Day and one of our favourites here at Get Laid Beds are the folk traditions. The custom of sending cards, flowers, chocolates and gifts did originate in the UK initially but it is now connected with regional customs around the United Kingdom. For example, in Norfolk and character called ‘Jack Valentine’ knocks on the door of hours and leaves sweets and presents for children. Despite this, children were scared of this mythical person.

Have a look at various stories relating to Valentines Day and see which one you prefer, they combine knowledge of death, birth, spring, fertility and many other things depending on where you look and what legend or part of history you look at.

We hope that you have a wonderful day and who knows, maybe you’ll even curl up tonight in your very own Get Laid Bed!
