Next in our series of blogs into the various Hardwood Beds we offer is Maple. Maple is a genus of trees or shrubs commonly used for a variety of uses – which will be outlined below. Hard maple is a strong and hard wearing wood that stains and finishes well. It is one of the strongest and durable hardwoods that we have available – being 60 percent harder than white oak.

It has an excellent resistance to abrasion, indentation and shock which is this dense wood is often called ‘nature’s perfect flooring’.

Some of the larger Maple species have valuable timber – it is often graded highly on both physical and aesthetic characteristics. In the past, and even currently it has been used for things such as bowling pins, pool cue shafts and baseball bats and with its highly decorative wood grain it deserves its place on our list of Hardwood Beds we now use for our wooden beds.

Maple wood is a popular choice for furniture making because of its strength, durability, and attractive appearance. Some of the reasons why maple wood is used to make furniture:

  • Hardness: Maple wood is a hardwood, which means it is dense and hard, and it is less likely to dent or scratch than softer woods. This makes it a good choice for furniture that will be used frequently, such as tables and chairs.
  • Durability: Maple wood is a strong and durable wood that is resistant to wear and tear. It can withstand the rigors of daily use and is less likely to warp or shrink over time.
  • Attractive appearance: Maple wood has a light, creamy color with a subtle grain pattern that can be finished to a smooth, polished surface. It is often used for furniture that has a natural, clean look, and is a popular choice for modern and minimalist designs.
  • Availability: Maple wood is widely available and can be sustainably harvested from many regions around the world. This makes it a popular choice for furniture makers who want a high-quality, environmentally friendly material.

Overall, maple wood is a reliable and versatile choice for furniture makers who want to create strong, beautiful pieces that will last for years to come.
