The next hardwood to cover in our hardwood range is Walnut. As with all hardwood options, this means that the tree loses its leaves in the autumn and winter. With walnut, the grain tends to be straight though this can get wavier the closer to the root that you get. The colour of walnut can vary dramatically depending on where the wood has originated from – the middle of the walnut tree provides a deep, dark brown colour where the outer layer of the tree provides a lighter looking wood.
The benefits of using the walnut is that is a strong, hard and durable wood that is able to be carved a lot easier than other hardwood options and it manages to hold its shape well over the years. This would make walnut an ideal choice of intricate woodwork. In the 17th and 18th century, Europe frequently used walnut to make cabinets and other pieces of furniture because of these properties. Contemporary furniture now tends to be made with walnut veneers rather than solid walnut because of the cost – however, at Get Laid Beds, we are proud to boast that any of our beds in walnut would be made from solid hardwood to ensure a high quality, durable and attractive product. If cared for properly, walnut furniture can last an entire lifetime, making it a perfect investment.
As before, walnut should have a straight grain and a layer of clear varnish/stain helps to accentuate this and make it even more appealing – this is why we provide an addition of a clear satin stain to all of our hardwood beds to truly accentuate the beauty of choosing a hardwood as it provides a maximum impact for any bedroom.
