Kids Mattresses – What Is Best?

Mattresses - Get Laid Beds

With the wide variety of mattresses available on the market these days, each boasting many possible health benefits, how do you know which mattress is the most suitable for your child?

It is quite common that most parents concentrate more on an attractive bed frame than the mattress itself but kids mattresses are an important choice. As children sleep longer than adults, a supportive yet comfortable mattress is crucial to their health, attention span, memory and stress level. Because of this, it is important that parents take several factors into account when choosing a mattress for their child. There are many different mattresses available on the market that are commonly bought for children and parents should consider the several health issues and make an educated choice of mattress for their own child as an individual. Mattresses can come in a range of prices and comfort levels too but a good mattress can last 10 years or more despite what the warranty may be.

Open Coil Mattresses are a more traditional style of mattress and therefore are often used as a ‘starter’ mattress due to their more affordable pricing. They are also available in varying levels of comfort too, from soft all the way to extra firm to ensure that there is a choice that can suit everyone. The downside to open coil mattresses is that as a rule they aren’t quite so durable in the long term as other types of mattress and therefore may not see your child through to their teenage or adult years. We have a very suitable Open Coil Mattress which we often recommend for children as it still retains a spring factor combined with a good equal level of comfort and support.

Another option of mattress could be a pocket sprung mattress. These have become very popular over the years due to the revolutionary design. These springs work independently from each other to provide your body and contours with a precise level of support and they can also help to defer the transfer of movement. These mattresses are often much more durable though they can come with a higher price tag than an open coil mattresses though their popularity has risen dramatically over the years. These mattresses can also feature a layer of memory foam or even latex foam at an additional cost. We feature a wide variety of pocket sprung mattresses such as our affordable Pocket 1000 Mattress all the way to our super luxurious Pocket 9000 Mattress and we also feature our Pocket 1000 Memory Mattress which utilises the pocket spring system as well as a layer of memory foam.

Memory foam mattresses became an overnight sensation and offer an unparalleled level of comfort as the foam reacts to body heat and weight, conforming to your body contours for excellent support too. However, research has shown that some poorly designed memory foam can let off gases that can cause breathing difficulties and affect those who suffer from asthma for weeks and in rare occurrences, years. Memory foam has plenty of health benefits but if you choose this type of mattress, ensure that you invest in a high quality memory foam which will be of a much higher cost. We currently offer two excellent quality memory foam mattresses with differing layers of foam to ensure there is one suitable for you. Our Classic Memory Foam Mattress has proven to be very popular with our low beds too!

Many children today suffer from allergies that can be caused by dust mites, asthma or a variety of small organisms that can infest sleeping areas. Any mattress can be fitted with a hypoallergenic and/or antibacterial mattress cover or mattress protector, however, good quality memory foam and latex foam are naturally dust mite resistant. Latex is also a bad conductor of bacteria making it an ideal choice for those who need the hypoallergenic benefits. However, the downside to latex foam is that it can be one of the more expensive options although there are now many mattresses that offer a combination of springs with a layer of reflex foam to ensure that the costing isn’t too high. We feature an excellent quality Luxury Latex Foam Mattress which features an extra deep layer of latex.

Growing bodies need good posture and support without compromising on comfort, however, it is wise to remember that what may be comfortable to one child, may not be so for another. Whilst it is crucial to choose the right amount of support with padding, it is important for parents to know more about each mattress type in order to make an educated choice. There is more to the issue of choosing a mattress for kids than just different types. A good mattress can last a long while and makes it one of the more important purchases to consider whilst furnishing a child’s bedroom.

Our range of mattresses features open coil mattresses, pocket sprung mattresses, pocket and memory foam combination mattresses, memory foam mattresses and also latex foam mattresses.
