What do your dreams mean?

By Warren 5 September 2012

Dreams are like personal encrypted messages from the subconscious mind.  Unfortunately, they are not always in the same language we use in reality, but through scientific advancements we now have the ability to study and interpret the most commonly dreamt about things.  Although there is no official text or a universally acclaimed go-to-textbook, the following dream meanings provide a comprehensive starting point for most people.

Outlined below in no particular order are the most common dreams that people have, collected from various sources and studies they are a good starting point for a fuller deeper personal analysis:

  • Being Chased – Very common in all cultures, it suggests feeling threatened.  So reflect on who or what is chasing you, and why they may pose a threat in your real life.
  • Animals – Most animals in a dream will represent your habits
  • Death – Symbolises change.  A death of a friend ror loved one represents change and more importantly is not a paranormal prediction of any kind.
  • Nudity – Symbolises openness and honesty and revealing your true self to others.  You may feel vulnerable and exposed to others.
  • Marriage – Could be a literal desire to tie the knot.
  • Babies – Could symbolise again a literal desire to produce offspring, a new start or your own vulnerability to feel loved.
  • Falling – Perhaps one of the most common, which symbolises ones anxieties, failing at something or losing control over something in your life.
  • Food – Is said to symbolise knowledge, because it nourishes the body just as information nourishes the brain.
  • Missing a flight – Symbolises missing another opportunity in your life.  Most common when you’re struggling to make a big decision.
  • Teeth – Having decayed or missing teeth is another popular dream and shows a fear of getting old or being unattractive to the opposite sex.
  • Being Trapped – Reflects your real life inability to escape or make the right choice.
  • Money – If it is dream about exchanging money, it suggests that you’re anticipating changes in your life, if it is an investment, for example a house then it symbolises wealth derived from experiences.
  • Water – Comes in a variety of forms and symbolises inner peace or unrest. Calm pools of water reflecting the former, whereas choppy sea’s or rivers suggest the latter
