With Halloween approaching, we are counting down our Top 7 scariest movies to watch this Halloween! If you plan on watching any of these movies by yourself, you’ll be sure to end up sleeping with the light on.

The Shining

This Stephen King novel from 1977 was a bestseller and is still regarded as one of the scariest books of all time. The movie was then made in the 1980’s and really lived up to expectation.

A Nightmare On Elm Street

Even to this day, A Nightmare On Elm Street is regarded as one of the scariest horror movies ever made. As well as starring arguably the most iconic horror movie villain of all time, Freddy Krueger.

The Exorcist

This 1974 film went down as one of the most critically acclaimed horror films ever, the tale of a young girl’s exorcism. It is still a film to avoid watching at night even to this day, proving that horror movies can be timeless.

Friday The 13th

This 1980 teen slasher movie was truly terrifying and remains one of the scariest horror films ever made even all these years later. It went on to have a number of sequels and was fully remade in 2009.

Scream

This horror movie proved highly popular since its release in 1996. It provided a bit of a modern twist on the generic teen horror movie, whilst still maintaining the key horror element. Making it a perfect movie to watch late at night on Halloween.

The Ring

This horror movie was released in 2002 and was renowned as one of the scariest films of recent years. The tale of a videotape filled with nightmarish images that leads to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly seven days.

Halloween

Of course a countdown  of the Top 7 Horror films to avoid watching on Halloween would be incomplete without this film. This horror genre classic from 1978 is renowned for being one of the scariest movies of all time. It went on to have a huge amount of sequels due to it’s sheer success. But it doesn’t get much better than the original Halloween slasher classic.
