The Benefits of Bed Time Stories

By Jonathan 15 September 2015

Bedtime stories are something we all experienced when we were younger, and each of us had that one favourite story we could listen to multiple times without getting bored. They may seem so simple, but did you know bedtimes stories are actually a great benefit for children?

Most of the books for children contain excellent morals, one such popular moral is how to treat people correctly. A story is a perfect way of demonstrating these expectations as they are brought to life in the form of a story. As various situations pop up in a book, it can be a perfect opportunity to ask whether what is happening is the right or wrong thing to do, helping to develop a child’s understanding of moral judgement.

Bedtime stories can also be part of a routine. As a busy day approaches the end, children can know to expect a story before it’s time to go sleep.

Bedtime stories also expose children to multiple words, which they learn to pronounce correctly and expands their vocabulary. These key skills can help them later in life when they begin reading and writing for themselves.

Bedtime stories can also help develop your child’s communication skills. Not only does the book teach the child how to communicate, but also having a discussion about what has been read is another great way to develop the way your child communicates with others.

Sitting with, and reading a story to your child also creates a bond. There is nothing better than getting comfortable with your son or daughter, and reading a story. Not only will it benefit them, but it can also help you to relax too.

As shown there are more benefits than you might initially consider. So, tonight, as your child’s head hits the pillow, why not read them a story, and help with their development for the future?
