Tips On Better Bed Care

Bed care is a topic often forgotten unfortunately. It’s not overly surprising, usually by the time people are starting to think about their bed it’s for the purpose of sleeping, not generally on how to improve the condition and life expectancy of their bed. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that your bed could be damaged or starting to get quite run-down and it won’t even cross your mind until you get on it one day and the slats simply crease or snap underneath you. Not to mention the state of your mattress, duvet or pillows. Bed care is an important thing to consider in the long run and it’s not a difficult thing to accommodate for, fortunately.

The first tip on better bed care would be to treat it as you would treat any other piece of furniture. It’s unlikely you’d take a leap and throw your entire body onto a chair, so take into consideration the sort of structural strain you’re putting on your bed frame the next time you feel like doing a triple back flip into your covers. It’s true that beds are built to be more sturdy and are quite obviously larger than your average chair, but that doesn’t make them indestructible. You should remember that you also use beds for longer than other pieces of furniture and for a substantially longer amount of time per use. This is especially important to remember on the thinner metal bed frames, where the hollow metal slats are more likely to curve or crease.

Finally, the simple task of taking care of your mattress, duvet and pillows. The mattress isn’t really an issue, as it’s almost completely protected by the bedsheets. However, you should remember to hoover it roughly once a month to remove any dust and other unwanted dirt. In the past, you should have flipped your mattress every so often too, but that’s no longer necessary with new mattress technology coming leaps and bounds in recent years. Next, your duvet and pillows will need washing from time to time, a little less frequently than your mattress will require hoovering, as they are completely protected by the duvet cover and pillowcases. You should always remember to carefully follow washing instructions on your duvet and pillowcases, otherwise you may find yourself in a situation where both your duvet and pillowcases are completely unusable, definitely not a place where you want to be.
