The late night struggle of getting to sleep, it’s happened to us all. But did you know, that late night snacking may actually be part of reason why you’re struggling to get to sleep at night? Here are some of the definite “no’s” before bed.

Pretzels:  Once the bags open, it becomes difficult to put down. But as tempting as they are, they’re not a good bedtime snack. The issue with this moreish snack is the fact they contain processed white flours. This leaves them with a extremely high glycemic index. This can encourage fat storage late in the day.

Ice cream: This may be the perfect accompaniment for the film you’re watching, but this snack is another one to avoid late at night. The sky high sugar content will give you loads of energy before bed, not to mention the fat content which won’t be burned off before hitting bed.

Cereal: I think we’ve all dug out a bowl late at night. But the high sugar levels will deliver an energy boost, making falling asleep more of a challenge

Pizza: The perfect addition to a kids sleepover or even for yourself as a late night treat. This high calorie snack is another one to avoid. All that saturated fat will simply sit in your stomach as you lie in bed – something to definitely be kept clear of.

Chocolate: You may think just a bit won’t hurt, but this sugary snack has high sugar levels. It also contains caffeine. This is a stimulant almost sure to rob you off your precious sleeping time.

So, before you grab a bag or pretzels, or open that bar of chocolate, consider this; these late night snacks may be the reason for that lost sleep. Try to avoid eating these foods after 9PM, and it will be of benefit to you.
