Dreams: What Do They Mean?

By Warren 7 May 2014

For many centuries, people have looked at dreams as omens and insights into their own lives and personalities. Many people believe that dreams are full of symbolic messages and detailed meanings that upon first appearances may not be entirely clear to us on the surface. But if you dig deeper and think about the events happening within our lives we can usually come up with an interpretation that makes sense. Keep on reading below for some of the most common dream themes and what they are supposed to symbolise.

Falling

This is one of the most common dreams that people have. You dream of falling and then all of sudden you jolt awake. This is said to symbolise insecurities and anxieties. Something in your life is usually out of control and there is nothing you can do about it. Another way of thinking about this is that you have a sense of failure about something, whether this is worrying about being fired at work or failing an exam at school.

Being Chased

This extremely common case dream can be genuinely terrifying when you sleep. It usually symbolises that you are running away from your problems. What the issue is can depend on who is chasing you – it may be a work problem or something about yourself that you know is destructive. For example, you may be drinking too much and you’re being chased by your family – this makes it seem like you are worried that you are drinking too much and the impact on your home life.

Running (But Going Nowhere)

This leads on from being chased and can also be a part of that dream. Often this is something similar to trying to run or escape from something but getting nowhere, whether your legs don’t move or you simply can’t run. This often means that you have too much on your plate or trying to do too much at once and can’t quite catch up.

Being Naked In Public

Most people have had this dream at some point within their lives. This dream usually takes place in a public space and experts usually say that this means we are trying to hide something or we’re not prepared for something. Often, if we are not bothered about the fact that we are naked the interpretation is that we are comfortable with who we are and content with the current status in life.

Flying

Although this may be terrifying for some people, typically a dream about flying means you are on top of things and are in control of the things that matter to you. It can also mean that you have gained a new perspective on things. Other interpretations look into it as it meaning that you are strong willed and feel like nothing and no-one can defeat you. If you struggle whilst you are flying or keep on falling it can mean someone may be standing in the way of control.

Teeth Falling Out

Lots of people have dreams that they lose all they teeth. They may feel something in their mouth and spit out onto their hand a tooth, and then this can lead into huge portions of teeth and even gum disappearing. This can be a genuinely terrifying experience for many people. According to experts this can be related to our sense of power and ability to communicate. Not surprisingly, it is linked to us being embarrassed by our appearance or associated with negative feelings about how you look.

We hope that you have found this as interesting as we did. If you have any other dreams that you have or have an insight onto how you think dreams can be interpreted then please do let us know, we’d love to hear from you!
