On average you spend around a third of your life in bed and therefore on a mattress and this is a highly important choice to make to ensure that you have the right mattress to suit you and your body. With Christmas creeping up in the coming weeks, you may wish to think what would be the best investment for a mattress in your guest room to ensure that any of your guests whether they are adults or children can have a great night’s sleep.

An open coil mattress is often a popular choice to use within a guest room as they are usually the most affordable. An open coil is a traditionally manufactured mattress featuring rows of springs that are all joined together using high tensile wire, allowing the mattress to move as one whole unit. This enables your entire body to receive an equal level of support and these mattresses often feature rod edge support to ensure that the mattress surface stays stable right to the edge of the mattress. Our Open Coil Mattress would be a fantastic addition for a guest bed and with a medium firmness it would suit everybody.

Another guest bed mattress option to consider would be a pocket sprung mattress. As a rule, these tend to have an ever so slightly higher price tag than standard open coil mattresses but their manufacturing make up is completely different and it would depend on how many pocket springs you were going for. For a guest bed mattress, an entry level pocket sprung mattress would be ideal such as our Pocket 1000 Mattress which is still an affordable option yet would have a more luxury guest bed feel. Pocket sprung mattresses feature individual springs which each work independently from each other to provide each part of your body and body contours with a precise level of support. These springs also help to defer the transfer of movement so should you have a partner that moves around a lot during the night the individual springs support every movement but stop you being able to feel the movement yourself.

A foam mattress can also prove a beneficial choice for a guest room and although often the more expensive choice it is the most luxurious for your desk. The benefit of various foam mattresses can be that as a rule they are often thinner than other types of mattress and some can even be as thin as 14cm when using a specific type of foam. This ensures that you can fit a guest bed mattress even under low beds to ensure there is always an option. The foams work by moulding to your body contours ensuring that you stay supported throughout the night. Our Classic Memory Foam Mattress combines the use of memory foam with different density foams to ensure your body is well supported and comfortable.

There are also combinations of these mattresses available too so as you can see, there is a wide variety to choose from – the perfect mattress will depend on you and your budget and everyone has their own personal preference.
