You’re tossing and turning, unable to get to sleep. No matter what you seem to attempt, you cannot relax. It’s something at some point in our life we’ve all experienced. Sometimes it’s a just a one off, however there are some things which can affect this. What exactly can affect sleep? We investigate.

Drinking Alcohol Or Coffee
As tempting as it is, a late night night coffee or alcoholic drink could be causing your sleepless night. Coffee contains caffeine which is a stimulant. This can keep your brain more active and alert. Perfect for the morning, however certainly not what you want as you’re settling down for the night.

The Wrong Mattress
We’re always getting told we use our phones too much and to be fair, there’s an element of truth. Using your phone in bed emits blue lights which is a wave length that will tell your brain it isn’t time for sleep. These means when you do eventually put it down for the night you’ll find yourself struggling to relax. It’s recommended to stop using these devices at least an hour bedtime to help your body begin to relax for night

The Wrong Mattress
Of course, sleeping on the wrong mattress could cause problems with your sleeping pattern. If the mattress you own is beginning to get old then it may be no longer offering the same levels of comfort it once did. This can cause back aches and difficulties in getting to sleep. It highly recommended to consider a brand new one if this is the case.

Too Light In Your Bedroom
If it is too light in your bedroom, then you could find sleeping more difficult. Darkness is one of the main indicators to our body it’s time to sleep, so any stray lighting shining into your room (for example from street lights) could be the root cause of your problems. We suggest blackout curtains or an sleeping mask to be sure you’re giving yourself the best possible chance of a great night’s sleep.
