We recently received an email from one of our satisfied customers picturing one of our beds, however, this turned out to be no ordinary picture. Judging by the size of the cuddly creature pictured above, we don’t think there is going to be much room for our customer considering the size of the beds newest occupant. The huge plushie pictured on top of the bed is named “Totoro”. For those who are currently a little confused, “Totoro” is a character from a classic, widely popular film called My Neighbour Totoro, by the critically acclaimed Japanese animation studio: Studio Ghibli.

Studio Ghibli have produced multiple box office hits over the course of their existence, including Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and Kiki’s Delivery Service. In mid to late 2013 Hayao Miyazaki, creator of Studio Ghibli, announced that their latest feature length film – The Wind Rises would be the last he directs. However, Miyazaki has announced his retirement a total of five times prior to this one and we don’t expect him to be gone for long.

My Neighbour Totoro is set in the 60’s and tells the story of a father and his two children who move into an old house in a rural Japanese village. It’s close to the hospital where their mother is recovering from an illness. Of the two daughters, Mei and Satsuki, Mei, the younger one doesn’t attend school yet and so is left to her own devices during the day. She sees two little rabbit-like creatures and chases them into the forest next to their home, where she encounters a larger, fluffier version of the ones she chased, whom she befriends. He introduces himself as “Totoro”. He’s a caring forest spirit, and Mei and Satsuki meet him multiple times until the end of the film where Mei becomes lost, and Totoro helps Satsuki find her. They both take a ride home in the mysterious but adorable catbus and everything works out.

We hope this that our customer has many great nights sleep in their new bed, alongside their adorable plushie.
