There are a number of ways you can help preserve your mattress and increase its life span – below are some simple tips on how to clean and how to protect your mattress.

1. Buy a Mattress Protector

The best way to protect your mattress is to purchase a mattress protector, this prevents most things from seeping into the mattress and will ensure you do get any stains or build-ups.

A mattress protector can also help with allergens. A mattress protector makes your bed less hospitable to dust mites, which is a cause of many people’s allergens. Better yet, unlike mattresses, a mattress protector can be washed to remove any dust mites.

2. Vacuum Your Bed

Vacuuming your bed also helps to solve the problem of dust build-up. A mattress cover will prevent dust build-up on your mattress, but dust can still build up on other areas of the bed such as the headboard and frame. It is recommended that you vacuum your bed every 3 to 6 months.

4. Air the room

Try to air the bed for at least a couple of hours before making it.

5. No Jumping on the Mattress

A few random jumps here and there won't harm your mattress, but frequent daily leaping can harm the box spring. The mattress may settle unevenly as a result of a damaged spring, weakening its support base.

It can also weaken the edges of the mattress. The size of the bed's sleeping surface shrinks as the mattress edges become looser with time. The edge of the bed will eventually be difficult to sit on without falling off. If you let your children to jump on the bed repeatedly, it may weaken the edges, necessitating the purchase of a new mattress.

6. Remove Stains with Upholstery Shampoo
