Earth Day: The Environmental Day Of The Year

By Helena Young 23 April 2014

Yesterday, April 22nd was Earth Day which is a day organised by the Earth Day Network which aims to ‘inform and energise populations so they will act to secure a healthy future for themselves and their children.’

Earth Day is held annually to honour environmental awareness and protection and was first celebrated in 1970. Since then, it has expanded globally with the help of the Earth Day Network and is now celebrated in more than 192 countries each year. In addition to this celebration once a year, the EDN is responsible for creating, implementing and expanding a wide variety of earth friendly projects and campaigns including the Canopy Project, Protect the Asian Elephant, Green Cities Campaign and Women and the Green Economy Campaign to name but a few.

The Earth Day Network encourages its participants to take action by involving themselves in ‘A Billion Acts of Green’ campaign where members pledge to take part in at least one (or all three!) forms of action to protect the earth. This includes eating less meat, supporting environmental education and reducing energy consumption. The Earth Day Network claims that they’ve gotten over one billion people to take this pledge. You can find out more about this here.

At Get Laid Beds, we do understand the environmental impact on the world. This is why we try and reduce the amount of waste that we produce. This includes recycling all of our off cut pieces of wood. Where possible, we also try to use water based substances to reduce the chemical effect of the environment. We wish to reduce our carbon footprint as much as we can and this is something we will continuously strive to achieve.

Happy Earth Day, everyone!
