Famous Beds In Books

There are countless amounts of books in the world, and not surprisingly, most of them mention beds at some point. However, there are considerably less books that actually feature a bed as the centre of the story. However, there are a few famous fables that have a bed standing at the centre of the plot. It’s an interesting way of doing things, certainly, so we’re here to tell you about some of the most commonly known ones.

Firstly, “The Princess And The Pea” by Hans Christian Anderson. This legendary tale about a dashing prince who is looking for a princess to marry. A girl turns up one night claiming to be a princess, so to test her story, the prince’s mother places a pea under 20 mattresses and 20 feather duvets. The theory was, if she was a princess, she would be so delicate, she could feel a pea under under all of that. She woke up complaining of a restless night of sleep and so she was married to the prince. The tale is quite odd, but also told all over the world, one of Hans Christian Anderson’s most famous stories.

Next, Sleeping Beauty. The story of Sleeping Beauty isn’t so much centred around a bed, but the tale is known worldwide: a baby princess is cursed by an evil fairy to touch a spinning wheel’s spindle and die, but the curse is lessened by a good fairy, proclaiming she’ll sleep for 100 years. Originally written by the Brother’s Grimm, known for their gory and gruesome fairy tales, sleeping beauty is surprisingly one of their tales most well known, alongside Little Red Riding Hood.

These are just a couple of examples of famous stories that include beds, but there are many more. It’s highly likely that you’ve already read a lot of them but you should look around and see if there’s any you haven’t encountered before. See what you can find!
