When shopping around for a new bed, a topic of discussion which is often foregone or forgotten about is the needs or wants for a headboard. Of course, everyone is different in terms of preferences, opinions and requirement, but here I hope to shed some light on whether a headboard is something which should or shouldn’t be included when searching for your next bed.
Firstly, and perhaps most importantly – if you are the type of person who enjoys a quick read of a book before you sleep, or flicking on the TV first thing in the morning then a headboard is a sensible option for you. Offering added support and comfort to the neck and back region, you will find yourself maintaining a more natural posture, essential for prolonged health. Secondly depending on your existing décor, a headboard can quickly and easily become a stunning feature piece of the bedroom. Traditionally it has always been said that a bed is often the centre-piece, but recently we have seen that there really are no limits with headboard style, size or colour.
On the other side of the fence, one of the reasons why people choose to avoid headboards is if they already struggle to make a bed. Another huge reason why they are becoming less popular is over the years we have seen a shift from grand and traditional interior design and architecture to a modern cleaner, minimalistic and contemporary decor. This theology where less is in fact more is becoming more prevalent in UK bedrooms and today this is reflected in the number of beds being sold without headboards, i.e. the platform bed. Structurally headboards make no real difference to the quality of the bed, so whether it is more important for you to have a comforting board to rest on when sitting in bed or whether you would like a chic platform bed, the decision really does it really does depend on you and which side your preferences lie.
