Sounds to help you get to sleep

With a surprisingly large portion of the population finding difficulty in getting their beauty sleep, the number of solutions people have come up with to help people sleep is absurdly high. With almost endless options and resources, you’d think that there was a surefire way that people have of getting their sleep. We’re sure it doesn’t shock you to hear that a lot of people still don’t. So, we’ve scouted around to find our favourite urban ambience sounds to help you sleep. It’s an excellent option, perfect for putting you in that mood where you’re out somewhere nice and the gentle background hum of the people around you is the proverbial cherry on the top of the cake.

Urban sounds can be considered any sound that you’d expect to hear within a city, which also entails all the things you would find in a city, not just the street noise. Places like markets, restaurants, or some of the quieter places, such as small bookstores, or old antiques shops that have classical music playing softly in the background, only interrupted by the sound of the old brass bell at the door when someone comes or goes. With urban sounds, it’s all about setting a scene. It may be that you enjoy the noisier atmospheres, and wouldn’t mind a scene set on a bench in the centre of the city. It really does come down to personal preference.

Speaking of setting the scene, there are plenty of websites that offer large soundbanks to choose from, where you can pick how long different sound samples are played, at what volume, among multiple other things such as reverb and echo levels. Some of the fancier ones even have EQ functions, which can allow you to move a sample between, for example, a loud chatter in a full hall and a gentle murmuring in the distance. It can help you settle down at night, having the right atmosphere to soothe you. Our personal favourite is a relatively quiet coffee shop scene. The conversation and clinking of cups is at quite a low volume, sometimes with some subtle jazz playing in the background. It’s a simple environment that can send you right off to sleep.

So, why not consider listening to some urban sounds if you’re struggling to sleep. You might find an area in that rich soundscape that does the trick for you and leaves you well rested. Try it out today.
