Dreams Continued: What Do They Mean?

By Jasmine 4 June 2014

It is believed that dreams are like letters from the subconscious mind. Many people study dream analysis and interpret common dreams to see what they symbolise. Although there is no definitive rule book for exact accurate descriptions, many of them make sense when you look into them and they also offer an excellent starting point for most people to interpret this further on a person level. After our popularity of a previous dream blog we thought we would delve into a few more common dreams – how many of these can you relate to?

Baby Dreams

To see a baby in your dreams can signify innocence, warmth and new beginnings as babies often symbolise something that is in your own inner nature that is pure, vulnerable, helpless and uncorrupted. Sometimes you can dream that you have ‘forgotten’ your baby which represents an aspect of yourself that you have abandoned up put aside due to changing circumstances. If you dream that a baby is neglected then it suggests that you are not paying enough attention to yourself or utilising your full potential. Combining a baby dream with a water dream often signifies one or the other polar opposites whether this be regression or rebirth.

Death Dreams

Death dreams can be scary and terrifying at the time as you often get the feeling that it is really happening to you. It is a broad subject and can mean very different things. It can often symbolise inner changes, transformation and positive development – meaning big changes are ahead of you and you are making a new start, leaving the past behind. Metaphorically speaking, death can mean a part of you has died whether this be an end to bad habits, end of a relationship, destructive behaviour etc. Death can also mean conflicting ideas depending on the person – it could represent a wake up call as it can be your mind’s way of trying to grab your attention. Or, it can also mean escape which is very common in extremely stressful jobs. Dreams of death should not be taken literally as most have more positive outlooks than the negative. It’s symbolic of change or endings.

Snake Dreams

This may sound strange to some but snakes are one of the most common animals found in dreams. The difficulty with snake dream analysis is that some people love snakes and some regard them in fear which is a common symbol for some people. Snakes are unpredictable and can strike at any time. Snakes can also symbolise hidden threats as they are often hard to see and they lie waiting for an opportunity to make a move – it can alert you to something in your life that you are not aware of yet. Other meanings of snake dreams can be sexual temptation or transformation – oddly these can be entwined should you have accepted a certain behaviour in your life.

Cheating Dreams

We are sure that everyone has had one of these at some stage in our lives, whether this being us being cheated on or ourselves doing the cheating. Not too surprisingly, being cheated on symbolises neglect, a fear of abandonment and points to low self esteem and lack of trust. When you’re the cheater, it can often suggest feelings of self guilt and self betrayal. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the fact you want to cheat it could just arise from a situation where you were being dishonest – such as a test. Sometimes it can depend on who you are ‘cheating’ on your partner with – if it’s about your boss that it can signify your desire for control, power and authority.

Missing Flight (or other transportation)

This is another very popular dream and often makes sense to the individual immediately. It usually shows your frustration over possibly missing out on important opportunities in life – it is most common when you’re struggling to make a big decision. However this can also be common should you wish to travel as there are endless possibilities and missing out on any of them frustrates you.
