When standard sizes don’t quite fit, our solid wood made to measure beds provides the solution. From period properties with uneven walls and awkward room dimensions, to modern box rooms, loft conversions and even canal boats, our custom made and bespoke bed frames are designed to fit your space, not force your space to fit the bed.
Shorter or longer than standard sizes – Taller sleepers over 6ft often benefit from a long bed beyond 190cm, while smaller rooms sometimes require a short bed to improve circulation.
Period properties and awkward spaces – Custom made beds for small rooms, alcoves, bay windows, chimney breasts and uneven walls that rarely suit off-the-shelf frames.
Lofts and sloped/low ceilings – Standard headboards and four poster bed posts can feel overwhelming or physically clash with ceiling angles and low heights.
Specific height requirements – Some customers require a lower bed height for children or attic rooms. Conversely, many older people or those with mobility considerations ask us to increase bed height for easier access.
Non-traditional living spaces – We regularly build custom size beds for canal boats, caravans, barns, and yurts.
If you’ve got an IKEA mattress – Although IKEA mattress widths often match UK standards, they follow European dimensions and are typically 200cm long — 10cm longer than the UK standard of 190cm.
Beds for sloped ceilings and lofts – We offer reduced headboard height and lower profile beds to suit spaces with restricted vertical clearance.
EU size bed frames – We build continental bed sizes that match the dimensions of IKEA mattresses in the following sizes:
European single beds - 90 x 200cm
European double beds - 140 x 200cm
European king beds - 160 x 200cm
European super king beds - 180 x 200cm
Space saving bed frames – Slimline frames with reduced external dimensions to maximise mattress size without wasting floor space. These can typically save between 8-12cm of floor space depending on the bed type.
Reinforced beds – For hospitality, rental properties, or those wanting an extra strong bed, we strengthen our frames beyond our already impressive standard specifications.
Eight sustainably-sourced wood options – All our custom wooden bed frames are built from 100% solid wood — choose from oak, walnut, beech, maple, ash, cherry, sapele, or pine. Every bespoke bed frame we build uses real, solid timber throughout with no veneers or composites.
Stains and finishes – Choose from nine finishes to suit your interior, whether you prefer a natural oil, rich stain, or contemporary painted look.
Leg shapes – Select from a variety of leg styles to subtly adjust the visual weight and feel of your custom bed frame.
Bed height modifications – This is our most popular made to measure bed frame modification. We can adjust overall frame height to suit your exact requirements, which may improve accessibility for those with mobility issues, make beds safer for smaller children, or better suit attic ceilings.
Bed length adjustments – Whatever size you require, we can adjust both the length and width of your bed frame. It is worth noting though that you’ll need to make sure a mattress fits the dimensions you pick.
Bespoke mattresses – We can increase or reduce the length in 3” increments to accommodate taller sleepers or compact rooms.
Bed width alterations – Custom width beds are ideal where rooms sit between standard sizes or where wall positioning is restrictive. We can also offer bespoke mattress sizes too.
Four poster post height – Four poster posts can be reduced or increased up to 220cm (subject to frame design), ensuring the structure fits comfortably beneath your ceiling.
Headboard height adjustments – Headboards can be lowered to accommodate low or sloping ceilings, or raised to provide extra support while sitting up in bed. Depending on your chosen design, we can simply adjust the height of the headboard or add an additional rail.

We strongly believe in personalising your bed to your taste and needs. We’ve built beds for canal boats, yurts, barns, hotels, skyscrapers and even a raised four poster for a dog (royalty?). Take the measurements you would like us to make the bed at and our experience and craftsmanship will make the necessary adjustments to ensure it’s the perfect fit.

We pay careful attention to detail in each aspect of the production process. It’s why we can offer such an extensive guarantee. Alteration fees typically range from £110–£120 depending on the frame size, plus the cost of any additional timber required. Larger structural changes may incur additional component costs.
In most cases, custom bed frames follow the same general lead time as standard builds, though more complex alterations may require up to 2–3 weeks. Urgent and express delivery are not available on bespoke orders.
In the UK, custom mattresses can be made between 2'6" and 7' wide and 5'6" to 7' long, in 3-inch increments.
Yes. If you need a shorter bed for a compact room, or for a tall sleeper who needs a longer than standard frame, we can build to your exact length requirements. Our standard UK lengths are 190cm and 200cm, but we regularly build outside these dimensions for customers with specific needs.
We regularly build custom bed frames tailored to non-standard room layouts and architectural features. As well as changing the length of the bed, we can also adjust both the width and overall height of any frame to your exact requirements.
We can also modify four poster post heights (up to a maximum of 220cm depending on the frame) and headboard heights. If you need a frame built around a specific architectural feature (such as a chimney breast, bay window or sloped ceiling) we can accommodate this as part of the bespoke build.
Not unless you want to. Most of our customers choose our assembly service (subject to availability), where we’ll professionally install it for you for total peace of mind. However, if you’d prefer to assemble it yourself, we offer two self-assembly options:
